Located in Chester, CT, Chapco, Inc has been a valuable and reliable partner in providing Sheet Metal Manufacturing Services, Assembly, as well as Product Development and Engineering Services since 1964. Skilled position reporting to Production Manager (or other Manager), an Assembler Lead performs a series of operations to correctly assemble and test various Chapco related products while assuring department is producing quality and on-time products.

Key Responsibilities:

Administrative/Supervisory: 

  • Understand inventory system; pick parts and discard unacceptable parts following correct policy and procedure.
  • Stage materials required for assembly work, using appropriate templates when applicable.
  • Main contact between multiple roles to continuously keep department organized, optimized and producing quality product.  Identify potential issues and make fix recommendations.
  • Assist in the develop of assembly instructions and/or processes.
  • Report department statistics.
  • Schedule staffing of cells or assembly area on a daily basis, prior to following day.
  • Hold meetings with staff, keeping them informed of pertinent information, changes, news. Etc.
  • Participate with employee morale building initiatives.
  • Understand time build information; report changes to management and participate in staff planning.
  • Identify potential assembly or production issues and communicate to Manager to continuously produce quality product.

Assembly:

  • Assembles components by examining connections for correct fit; fastening parts and subassemblies.
  • Follow detailed parts lists, assembly instructions and templates to assemble Chapco product from start to finish.
  • Perform pre-assembly tasks such as soldering, wiring, folding etc, when applicable.
  • Use test equipment, as provided, to assure quality output.  Follow department policy when unacceptable part is found.
  • Comply with policies and guidelines.
  • Report problems with quality, processes, equipment and materials to Operations Manager
  • Record time/ production quantities using applicable procedure.
  • Communicate kanban/potential parts shortages to Operations Manager when necessary.

Quality & Training

  • Understand requirements of job to assure quality, accurate quantity and on-time production.
  • Test products utilizing company tools and protocol.  This may include Hi-Pot testing.
  • Participate in quality initiatives when applicable.
  • Train new department members in areas of the department where appropriate.
  • Other administrative duties as needed

Maintenance and Safety

  • Follow company policy pertaining to maintenance and safety requirements. 
  • Maintain a clean and organized environment and at all times to facility assembly functions.

Skills, Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Prior assembly experience required.
  • Supervisory experience preferred. 
  • Ability to use manual and power hand tools.
  • Able to accomplish fork lift training, if applicable.
  • Stooping, Bending, lifting (10-25 lbs), sitting, walking.
  • Specific vision requirement include close vision and color vision.
  • Available to work over-time if needed
  • Strong team player and reliable.
  • High School Diploma or GED is preferred.
